Announcing the Gillespie Research/
John Williams "SIRA" ("Strategic
Independent Research Affiliation")
When the GRA website commenced operation in May, we promised its future would be a highly evolutionary one. For instance, we mentioned at the time that a major addition to the site in the months ahead would be the GRA Networking Program.
As outlined in my recent memo, we are making good progress on the networking activities. We believe their incorporation will represent a major step forward in making the site an even more unique, valuable resource.
But something else is afoot, another project of great significance with regard to our goals for the website.
In memoranda dated 9/29 and 10/8, I introduced the general topic of "Strategic Independent Research Affiliations," and a specific one that, at the time, was in its formative stages. Here's a summary of the earlier material:
"Currently in progress is work on what may become the first of what I will describe...as a 'Sponsored Independent Research Affiliation'...The concept is exciting, as is the nature of the specific project now under consideration...We should be in a position to provide more details in the next month, give or take. Like other projects on our drawing board, this one is designed to enhance the breadth, quality and value of the services we provide to our client base."
We are now in a position to provide more details. I am exceptionally pleased to announce that Gillespie Research Associates has reached a definitive agreement with Walter J. "John" Williams to host his new research product, "John Williams' Behind the Government's Numbers."
Many of the recipients of this memo have read some or all four installments in the series authored by John that we ran on the website. The installments appeared under the umbrella title, "Government Economic Reports: Things You've Suspected but Were Afraid to Ask!" (If you happened to have missed one or more of them, they are currently posted in the website's "Guest Contributions" section, carrying publication dates of 8/24, 9/7, 9/22 and 10/6).
When I originally approached John to do this series, I had high expectations regarding reader interest and response. I thought it would be a hot topic; I was not disappointed!
Interest in this series was exceptional. The primary reason, I'm sure, is because most people sense that government data are not as "pure" as they once were. Moreover, John has extensive knowledge of the area and was exceptionally effective in communicating his body of knowledge.
With all this in mind, I spoke with John about possibly doing something on a regular basis -- a monthly communique is what I had in mind. We no have had the proverbial meeting of the minds, and "John Williams' Behind the Government's Numbers" will shortly be a reality.
The main body of the service will consist of a monthly publication, augmented by a few additional pieces from time to time. John's material will be accessed through the Gillespie Research website. Nevertheless, it will be a freestanding, entirely independent research product. In fact, it will be so independent that I envision times when our respective views will differ.
Currently, the target for publication of the "official" first edition is the second week of December. But we anticipate that something approximating a prototype edition will be published during November.
John's research material will carry its own subscription price. However, it is probable (although not definite) that a discount will be extended to existing GRA subscribers. In addition, John is considering a charter subscription, which would be available at a material discount from full rates.
We will keep you advised of developments. But if you think you might have an interest, there is something you should do right now, to help preserve discounts to which you might be entitled. Simply let me know of your possible interest, which will not obligate you in any way whatsoever.
(NOTE: Please send your responses either via e-mail to drgillespiesr@aol.com or to the GRA website's "Contact Us" link.
I believe this is going to be an interesting, exceptionally valuable addition to what we are doing. I hope you will agree.
Many thanks and best wishes,
Doug Gillespie
