Summary
Earlier this morning, the Labor Department reported that import prices rose a strong 1.8% during March, led by a 10.6% spurt in petroleum prices.

According to today's release from the Labor Department, import prices registered a sharp 1.8% increase during March, which compares with a 0.8% rise during February. (The February change was unrevised from last month's original release.)
Based on today's numbers, the price of petroleum imports rose 10.6% in March. Prices for imports excluding the petroleum component were up 0.3%.
