April Import Prices (#1)   - May. 13, 2005


Summary

Earlier this morning, the Labor Department reported that import prices rose 0.8% during April, aggravated by a 3.1% increase in petroleum prices.

According to today's release from the Labor Department, import prices registered a 0.8% increase during April, which compares with a revised 2.0% rise during March. (The March increase was originally reported as 1.8% in last month's release.)

Based on today's numbers, the price of petroleum imports rose 3.1% in April. Prices for imports excluding the petroleum component were up 0.4%.

I will publish a more detailed analysis of these numbers either later today or over the weekend.
