The Institute for Supply Management reported today that its index designed to measure the economy's service-sector activity rose during June, to a reading of 62.2, up 3.7 points from May's 58.5 level. This was noticeably better than a consensus forecast that was looking for something around 60.

There was a bit of a firming during June in the index's price component. It was up 1.9 points to 59.8.

Sometime later this week, I will publish a more detailed look at both ISM index results for June (manufacturing and service.)
